Plain Smooth Vase

A plain vase at 25 by 19 cm, made in two finishes. With no carving or texture the finish is the whole of it. Left natural, the wood carries the piece entirely, so tone and figure vary more visibly between examples than almost anything else in the range — two will not match, and that is the arrangement rather than a compromise. Taken dark, the stain sits into the grain so the figure stays readable through the colour in good light, then reads as one solid form from across a room: the choice for a pale wall or a light shelf, where the raw wood would simply blend in.
