An oval serving plate, 41 cm long and 16 wide, carved across its width with the same repeating groove pattern. The oval form means the grooves shorten toward each end, so the pattern compresses as it runs out — an accident of geometry that ends up being the nicest thing about the piece. Only 8 cm deep, so it serves rather than contains. Unstained, which keeps the carving reading as texture rather than as a drawn-on motif.
