Our Story
A tree's second life
A mango tree spends 15 to 20 years bearing fruit. When the harvest finally slows, it isn't cut down early — it earns its rest, and then it begins again. The same tree becomes a bowl, a vase, a candleholder that will outlast another decade in your home.
Our craftsmen work in small family workshops. They turn mango wood on hand-operated lathes, carve with chisels, and char the surface with open flame — a technique that hardens the grain and deepens it to near-black.
The heartwood is pale gold. The sapwood is dark chocolate brown. That contrast isn't manufactured — it's the tree, honest about what it is. No two pieces share the same grain. No piece is made twice.

“Fifteen years of fruit. Then a second life — shaped by fire and hand.”
— The way of mango wood, Sonae
Three stages. Every piece.
Form · Detail · Finish
01 · Form
The Lathe
A craftsman holds a steel tool against spinning mango wood, reading every knot and grain shift as the shape emerges. Bowl walls, vase necks, curved bases — all formed by feel and eye, never by template.
02 · Detail
The Chisel
Once shaped, patterns are cut by hand — spirals, ribbing, geometric facets, smooth organic curves. The chisel goes where the craftsman decides. No two pieces carry identical marks.
03 · Finish
The Surface
The final decision: flame-charred to near-black, finished in warm coffee tones, or sealed natural. Each finish is applied by hand — the character of the piece decided last.
